Home Automation Clapham Project Overview

Our client in Clapham tasked us with our perfect home automation project, the design and planning of an automated media and lighting system throughout their home. Using a selection of products from a number of leading brands we were able to seamlessly integrate a solution that fulfilled their requirement.

One of the key requests was that the technology was discreet with no visible wiring or ugly ‘boxes’ on display, this was more of a challenge as the system was a retro fit as opposed to a home renovation.

The Bedroom

We installed a TV in the bedroom which is connected to a centrally installed video matrix so there is no local equipment on display, just a TV on the wall which looks elegant with no visible cables or wires.

Our Control4 installers created a system that was controlled via a Control4 SR260 remote control and Control4 app enabling unlimited viewing from all media through the central system.

The Loft

In the loft space, our home automation team installed a central rack. The loft is the perfect place to keep the main hub as it’s out of sight, but runs all the media throughout the house.

The equipment in this rack includes:

  • Lilin NVR (CCTV recorder)
  • Sky Q Silver Satellite Receiver (central video source viewable in all rooms)
  • Sky Q Mini Satellite Receiver (central video source viewable in all rooms)
  • Apple TV (central video source viewable in all rooms)
  • HD Anywhere 4 x 4 video matrix
  • Draytek Router
  • Control4 Processor
  • Sonos Connect Amp
  • Patch rail to left of rack, contains all cabling out to rooms

More Bedrooms

In the other bedroom the TV is connected to the centrally installed video matrix, this time with a Sonos Playbar for audio. In this location there is a local Bluray viewable whereas the other other locations are viewable via the video matrix. The unit is controlled via a Control4 SR260 remote control and Control4 app like the other bedroom.

The Living Room

In the Living Room, the TV again is connected to the centrally installed video matrix, so there is no local equipment on display. The TV sits on the wall with no cabling or wires visible. A Sonos Playbar for audio is also installed on the wall beneath the TV.

As before, the unit is controlled via a Control4 SR260 remote control and Control4 app.

The Control4 SR-260 Remote Control is the perfect hand-held interface to the whole home. These beautiful remotes feel good in the hand, have an intuitive button layout perfect for one-handed operation, and are highly customisable.

In the Living Room, our experienced Rako installers installed a Rako lighting control keypad. The 7-Button Wired Modular Panel connects to the RAKOM wired CAT5 network pre configured for 4 scenes, off, raise and lower. A hard wired 7 button push button control module that has several fixing options. Based upon the widely used 50 x 50mm Euro Module switch plate accessory standard.

The Kitchen

Our client was very clear that the tech should be discreet, so we concealed Sonos and Rako equipment in a Kitchen cupboard.

Is it a picture?
No, it’s a Samsung Frame TV. When the TV is not in use it takes the form of artwork to provide a ‘technology free’ relaxing environment. At the touch of a button the Samsung Frame turns on. It’s connected to the same central system with the Control 4 SR260 Remote.

For further discretion without compromising on sound quality, in-ceiling speakers were fitted in the kitchen.
